This extraordinary once-in-a-lifetime experience combines the challenge of climbing Africa’s highest peak with the laid-back beauty of Zanzibar’s tropical coast. Commencing in Arusha, travelers set out on the scenic Lemosho route, trekking through rainforest, alpine moorland, and dramatic high-altitude landscaping. Along the way, iconic landmarks such as the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco Wall and Kilimanjaro’s glaciers build toward a midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak. After descending, the adventure concludes on the island of Zanzibar, where white-sand beaches, historic Stone Town and crystal-clear waters offer the perfect setting to relax and savour your unforgettable voyage.

itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to your hotel. Rest and pre-trek briefing.
  • Day 2: Drive to Londorossi Gate. Continue to the Lemosho trailhead and begin rainforest trek.
  • Day 3: Ascend through lush hills and cross streams to Shira Ridge, then descend to Shira Camp 1.
  • Day 4: Trek towards Kibo’s glaciered peak. Continue to Moir Hut with acclimatization walks.
  • Day 5: Trek southeast toward Lava Tower (16,000 ft) for acclimatization. Descend to Barranco Camp.
  • Day 6: Climb the Barranco Wall and continue to Barafu Camp. Enjoy views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
  • Day 7: Midnight summit attempt. Ascend to Uhuru Peak (19, 345 ft). Descend to Mweka Camp
  • Day 8: Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive summit certificates and transfer to Moshi
  • Day 9: Transfer to Arusha for your flight to Zanzibar. Arrival and transfer to beach hotel.
  • Day 10: Full day of leisure. Relax on the beach or enjoy optional island activities.
  • Day 11: Full beach day at leisure. Optional swim in the mangroves.
  • Day 12: Departure. Flight to your onward international destination.

Do all accommodations have access to a water views?

We design all itineraries to help you enjoy water views wherever you go, provided your desired travel location is near a body of water.

Your itinerary in part or in full is designed to take you to places where you will enjoy a water view, either from your accommodation or the activities available to you. Please note that while we make every attempt to choose default accommodations with a water view, we cannot guarantee that every default accommodation or your particular room will have a water view as this is subject to the location, travel season, availability, booking time, etc.

Do you offer the full travel package of flights, car rental, hotel, insurance and activities?

Our safaris are in destination- local airport to safari accommodation- all inclusive trips, meaning they include in destination local transport, food and accommodation. International flights are not included.

Other non-safari trips can be modified to include transport, accommodation, activities and car rental options. We recommend that you purchase travel insurance from a reputable insurance carrier of your choice.

Are all the tours self-guided?

All Safari trips are fully guided. Other trips may be guided or self guided subject to your preferences.

What are the minimum and maximum number of travellers that can book a tour?

There is no set minimum or maximum numbers, all bookings depend on you and your travel plans. You can book to travel alone or with a group.

Are the tours suitable for all ages?

Most tours are suitable for all ages subject to the location, length of trip, activities involved and your personal circumstances. We encourage you to use your own judgment on what is suitable for you and your group.

Safari trips are inclusive of local transport, meals and accommodation but exclusive of international flights, insurance and gratuities and local taxes. For all other trips, unless otherwise specified, and all-inclusive travel services are purchased, the trips do not include meals, local transport, gratuities, insurance nor local taxes, charged by the accommodation and other service providers. We recommend buying health and travel insurance from a reputable provider to cover your trip.
